It is with much excitement that we would like to inform you of the planned packaging change for Top Dog Adult 20kg bags. The packaging has been completely redesigned and will now have a foil lining, which will enable the removal of the cumbersome inner plastic bag, without compromising on product freshness.
We packed the last of the old packaging stock in December, and once our warehouse stock is depleted, we will commence packing into the new bags. This is expected towards the end of January/Early February.
Please be advised that we will not be replacing old packaging for new, so please ensure that you have sold all of your old style bags before placing the new stock on your floor.
We trust that the new, more upmarket packaging will assist you with increasing your sales, and that the change will be beneficial to all.

Packaging Changes for Clients

In an effort to keep everyone updated as far as our products go we would like to make you aware of the following packaging changes:
New look packaging: Egg Food/Egg Food Breeder; Mynah Soft and Mynah Pellets; African Grey Delights. These new bags are already available.
Look out for the new Parrot/Parakeet foil bags that should be available over the next 2 months. Please note, that only the packaging has changed, we have made no changes whatsoever to the products themselves.
Bulk Packaging: Handrear; Lorikeet, Mynah, Finch, Canary, Parrot/Parakeet; Breeders Boost, Complete and Sutherlands Mixes.
These bird feeds will be packed into individual 1kg bags. For bulk (5kg, 10kg, 25kg) the 1kg bags will be packed into larger baler or printed bags, and marked on the outside of the bulk bag with the weight. The printed plastic bulk bags are also being phased out, so once current stock is depleted all 5kg and 10kg bulk will be have a clear plastic outer baler.
The 20 & 25kg bulk will still be packed in the woven bags. Packing in this manner ensures that our product will be fresh right down to the last kg. If you have any queries in this regard, please feel free to contact us. Regards The Avi Team

We have had a few calls and complaints over the last 6 weeks concerning our Handrear Phase 2 diet. Problems reported include slow crops, and some chick deaths. In all cases the chicks were between the ages of 2 to 3 or 4 weeks.
According to our quality policy, all complaints are thoroughly investigated. In these cases various samples were sent to independent labs for feed and bacterial analysis. We also had some lab reports from clients to draw information from. Retention samples from the batches in question were also examined closely for smell, taste, color and mixing consistency.
The end results of all this testing, is that there is no solid evidence to support any problem with the Phase 2 feed. Bacterial cultures done indicated the cause of death in some chicks to be from bacteria that occur naturally in the environment and thus inconclusive, and the results of the bacterial cultures were also difficult to interpret as we add a pro-biotic to our formula, so a positive culture was in fact expected. There was never any unusual, highly pathogenic bacteria cultured. In addition, we have also taken into account the large volume of Phase 2 that has been manufactured and used in the market over the last 6 months and used country wide on a vast number of chicks. The complaints we have received make up a very small amount of the total feed used, and it stands to reason that if there was a feed problem, we would have had a huge incidence of problems reported.
The question then remains as to what the cause of slow crops and chick death was. After some research and conversations with an Avian Veterinarian, we have come to the conclusion that the problem is one of bacterial load and natural chick immunity. The chicks immunity to environmental challenges follows a certain pattern in conjunction with age. At birth, there is a good immunity level, provided directly from the female parent. This immunity then declines gradually, reaching its lowest levels between 2 – 3 weeks, before the chicks own immune system becomes fully functional and immunity again starts to improve. Thus if a chick is immune challenged at the 2 – 3 week age, it’s chances of resisting the challenge are not optimum. Additionally, any other stresses placed on the chick at this age (eg. Change of feed, temperature changes, exposure to new nursery, introduction to other birds) will further compromise the already low ability to resist infections of commonly occurring bacteria. It is safe to say, that the 2 – 3 week old chick is as fragile as a newly hatched chick, and should be treated with as much care from a husbandry perspective.
In light of all the information gathered and testing done, Avi-Products is entirely satisfied with the quality of our Handrear Phase 2. If you have any queries, or would like our assistance in any regard, please feel free to contact us. Your custom is important to us, and we, as always would like to do our best to assist you with the often challenging vocation that is bird breeding.

Avi-Products (Pty) Ltd – Going from Strength to Strength
|
|
|
|
All manufacturers of bird and parrot foods and supplements claim that their foods are “scientifically balanced” and the ingredients are “especially prepared.” This is especially so with new foods that have been recently developed and therefore they copy what is on the bags of those foods and supplements that have been widely and successfully used in the market place over the last 25 years. So what is different about Avi-Plus? Firstly they are the oldest specialised Avian foods and supplements in the country, having been launched in 1985. Secondly more of these foods have been sold in South Africa over the last 20 years than all the other brands, local and imported put together. The real test of a food or supplement, though is, “Does the baby grow well, does it grow to its full potential and does it survive to be a healthy strong young adult?” If the answer is yes to these questions then you have a proven excellent food. Over the last twenty years breeders country wide have made Avi-Plus Hand rearing food the food of choice. The reason for this heavy dependence on Avi-Plus by breeders is simply, “It gives the best results!” AVI Products has recently made great strides in improving efficiency and reducing costs which will ultimately benefit the customer as we are able to produce goods at more competitive prices. The year 2008 is remembered for run-away commodity prices forcing the world economies into recession.
Fortunately we recently have seen decreases in the prices of certain commodities. In June 2007 we started with the implementation of the ISO9001 standard and are proud to announce that after 21 months of hard work got certification in March 2009. The implementation of these quality standards not only gives the assurance that you get what you pay for but has also benefited Avi Products greatly through improved productivity and efficiency.
We have continued to upgrade and improve these quality standards and in November 2009 passed our SABS audit to obtain our ISO9001:2008 certification. In short, AVI Products is a company that you can rely on for the supply of top quality, affordable products.

Handrear Confusion
|
|
 |
 |
|
Due to there being some confusion amongst our clients with regard to our new three phase handrear formulas, we felt it would be in everyone’s best interest to clarify the purpose of and utilization of these formulas. The Phase one and Phase three will be released later this month once we have received our new improved foil packaging.
PHASE 1: The phase 1 handrear replaces our previous Handrear Premium. It is the same scientifically formulated premium handrear for use in the rapidly growing new hatchling. It contains probiotics to help establish the normal gut flora, and top grade, highly digestible ingredients for maximum absorbtion. Use until babies are 10 days/2 weeks old.
PHASE 2: Phase 2 is the new name and packaging for our previous normal handrear formula. A new look on the outside, the product in the bag is exactly the same as our old normal handrear and has not been altered in any way. The instructions on the new packaging advise that it is used for babies between the ages of 10days/2 weeks through to 6 weeks old. It can, however be used until weaning as you all have been doing for the past several years. Recent scientific research has, however, indicated the need for a “finisher” specific diet for use in birds 6 weeks to weaning. This research is what prompted us to introduce the Phase 3/Finisher formula.
PHASE 3: This formula is an entirely new formulation for Avi-Plus. It is designed to meet the specific requirements of babies from 6 weeks to weaning. The good news for you as a consumer, is that research has shown that the nutrient requirements at this stage is not as high in certain areas as previously thought, so the formula is not as expensive to produce as the other two Phase formulas. We will pass this on to you as consumers, and our Phase 3 formula will be released at, and maintain a price lower than the Phase 1 and 2 formulas.
We hope that this information will alleviate any confusion as to utilization of our handrear formulas. If you are still unsure, or have any queries or comments, please feel free to contact us by phone, or email: info@aviproducts.co.za
