Q: Your Vitamin/Mineral twin pack supplement costs R252 for 2Kg. I can get a 5Kg ready mix for R260. Why are you so expensive?
A: First off let’s talk about the twin pack. Vitamin/mineral supplements are very delicately balanced in order to provide the best for your birds. When mixed together the stability of the products are affected, thus severely shortening the shelf life and optimal activity of both vitamin and minerals. We separate these products into a twin pack to maintain the integrity of our products. You get exactly what you pay for, right to the bottom of the bottle.
Now some maths: Product X costs R260/5kg or R52/kg. Reduce this further to a cost of 52cents per 10g of product. The dose rate is 50g per kg of food, so Product X has a base cost of R2.60 per kg food. AVI-plus vit/min twin pack costs R252/2kg or R126/kg. Reduce this further to a cost of R1.26 per 10g of product. The dose rate is 10g per kg of food, so AVI-plus has a base cost of R1.26 per kg of food. Less than half the price of product x.
Q: Your AVI-pro probiotic only comes in a 1kg bucket and seems more expensive than the 5kg bucket I can get from the local co-op.
A: Remember our probiotic is formulated very specifically for birds. It contains high quality LIVE bacteria found in the digestive tract of healthy birds. We also keep the ratio of bacteria to carrier mix low, so the concentration of these bacteria in the product is very high – you use a small amount for effect. The big bucket from your co-op may well be a generic type of probiotic mix used for cattle and sheep. These contain a very general mix of intestinal bacteria, at relatively low concentrations, so there is no guarantee that you are giving your birds (often weak, sick or stressed) the healthy bacteria they need.
Q: The distribution of AVI-products has recently been handed over to Marlton’s. How is this going to affect the price that I, the end user pay, for the products.
A: Distribution costs are, like everything else on the rise. At AVI-products we keep a very close eye on all costs, as these costs ultimately filter down and affect the prices of our products. Marlton’s has a very large distribution area, also a very large product list. Our area’s and volume are significantly smaller, so our distribution costs are higher. This was becoming an increasing concern for us, so the agreement was made with Marlton’s to “piggyback” our distribution along with theirs, taking advantage of their lower cost/product delivered. The actual result of this change is thus a REDUCTION in costs for us, and we have made this available to you the end user. These lower prices were brought into effect on 1st July this year, and you should already be seeing these prices from your retailers.
We welcome your comments and queries at any time, as this enables us to continue to provide the service and quality that you have come to expect from AVI-Products.
